Me like trees.

I love Johannesburg and Pretoria in the spring. You see, at some point years and years ago the city councils got it into their heads that it would be a great idea to plant loads of jacaranda trees along the road sides.

This wasn't perhaps the most cunning plan, since the jacaranda berries are highly toxic and not child friendly, but most residents who lack diminutive offspring don't care since every spring before the jacaranda puts out its leaves it flowers first. If you don't know; the flowers are tubular and a shade of intense lilac and masses of them make each tree into a purple cloud. They also fall off prolifically, strewing the ground beneath each tree with a layer of purple snow. (Great to look at, but a bastard if you've got to park your cars beneath it.) Eitherway an avenue of jacaranda’s in full bloom is a magnificent thing!

Heh, random fact about Johannesburg - the natural vegetation that surround the city is savannah or scrub, however Northern Johannesburg is classed as 'forest' due to the huge density of trees and apparently is one of the world's largest man-made forests!

The latest unemployment news is, well, nothing. I haven't heard about the Cape Town job yet, I went to an interview this morning but we'll have to see how that goes. I've emailed my CV a few more places.

One positive was that at the end of the interview this morning the creative director I saw actually complemented my portfolio and even called me talented. If nothing else that put a smile on my face. I'm just hoping that when it finally does come time that I have a job again that I manage to find that 'talent' once more.

Heh - I'd say the highly toxic berries and their "deleterious" effect on children would be a positive super-benefit. Then again, maybe I'm just a bitter, twisted, shallow excuse for a person :P
